Detroit's loss is Maruti's gain as it picks engineers for its R&D pool

According to reports in the media, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is in the process of hiring expat engineers from Europe, Japan and US, which will help it to roll out global compact cars in the next few years.
It may be recalled that MSIL had participated at Society of Auto Engineers (SAE), 2009 World Congress Career Fare in Detroit on April 20-21, 2009 from where it has reportedly added 10 people on its rolls, as claimed by Business Standard. The , adding that the company is recruiting for specific high-tech fields like engine, transmission, body electricals, car designing , automotive styling, powertrain (engines & gears) development, modeling, structural bodywork, product planning, brakes, suspension, safety & crash, interiors, BIW (body in white exterior), as quoted by the spokesperson.

CRISIL grants 'AAA(so)' rating for Tata Motors debentures

CRISIL has assigned its rating of ‘AAA(so)/Stable’ to Tata Motors Ltd’s (TML’s) secured, guaranteed, low-coupon, premium redemption debentures. The rating is based on the irrevocable and unconditional guarantee provided by State Bank of India (SBI, rated ‘AAA/Stable/P1+’ by CRISIL) securing all principal, redemption premium and interest obligations, and on the payment structure that is designed to ensure full and timely payment to the lenders. The guarantee can be invoked by the trustee, Vijaya Bank, in the event the designated account is not funded by TML as per the transaction structure. Upon invocation of the guarantee, the guarantor, SBI, is liable to pay on demand, and not later than seven business days from the date of the notice, the full amount due by TML to the debt-holders. TML is required to reimburse SBI within 30 days for any amounts funded by SBI (upon invocation of guarantee) to the trust account for making a scheduled payment on the debentures.

Fiat India to launch Grande Punto petrol and diesel versions in second half of 2009


Fiat Automobile India Limited, a 50:50 joint venture between Fiat S.p.A and Tata Motors, is all set to launch its hatchback- Grande Punto- in the second half of this year. Based on its C-segment model Linea’s platform, Grande Punto will be available in both petrol and diesel versions. Though no official intimation has been provided by the company, it is expected that the Fiat Grande Punto will be launched in three variants - Active, Dynamic, and Emotion.

Daimler acquires 10 per cent stake in Tesla Motors

Daimler AG has announced that it has acquired an equity stake of nearly 10 percent of Tesla Motors Inc. which deepens the relationship between the inventor of the automobile and the newest member of the global auto industry. Tesla is the only production automaker selling a highway capable electric vehicle in North America and Europe.The two companies have already been working closely to integrate Tesla’s lithium-ion battery packs and charging electronics into the first 1,000 units of Daimler’s electric smart car. In order to benefit from each other’s know-how, the investment enables the partners to collaborate even more closely on the development of battery systems, electric drive systems and in individual vehicle projects.

Maruti Suzuki stop-start technology for its cars to save fuel by upto 10 per cent

In its bid to enhance the fuel efficiency of its product portfolio , Maruti Suzuki is reportedly considering to roll out cars with added stop-start technology to the vehicle. This technology, which is said to boost fuel economy by around 5-10 per cent, will be pricier by Rs.10,000-20,000 to Maruti's existing model's price. There are media reports that India's largest passenger carmaker is in talks with Bosch to provide their patented technology to them . Maruti will be selling the micro-hybrid versions along with its existing models.
