Fiat launches superhatch Grande Punto


Fiat India has unveiled its latest offering in the premium hatchback segment – the Grande Punto, derived from the FIRE (Fully Integrated Robotized Engine) and MULTIJET engines which combine superb performance with low fuel consumption. To add to it, these engines are also environment friendly and Euro 4 ready. To be rolled out at its Ranjangaon plant near Pune, the super-hatch will be available in India with two petrol engines (1.2 and 1.4 FIRE) and one diesel (1.3 multijet).

Porsche wins 'Best New Engine 2009 Award'

Once again Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, has been successful in the International Engine of the Year Awards. With its 3.8-litre power unit from the 911 Carrera S models, the sports car manufacturer has underpinned its position in a field of high performance competitors, receiving the coveted “Best New Engine 2009 Award”. For eleven years now, this prize has been awarded by the British specialist journal “Engine Technology International” for outstanding engine characteristics.

Toyota offers Gentex mirror-based backup camera display on new Verso

Gentex Corporation, the leading supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors to the worldwide automotive industry, has announced that it is shipping its Rear Camera Display (RCD) Mirror and base feature auto-dimming mirrors for the new Toyota Corolla Verso multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). The Verso is sold throughout Europe.

GM and Koenigsegg Group sign MoU for Saab buy-out

General Motors Corp. and Koenigsegg Group AB, a consortium led by Koenigsegg Automotive AB, today confirmed the details of a memorandum of understanding for the purchase of Saab Automobile AB that secures Saab´s future. The sale, expected to close by the end of the third quarter of this year, includes an expected US$600 million funding commitment from the European Investment Bank (EIB) guaranteed by the Swedish government. Additional support is to be provided by GM and Koenigsegg Group AB to fund Saab's operations and product program investments. This includes plans to launch several new products that are in the final stages of development. Saab had filed for reorganization under Swedish Law on February 20, 2009. This tentative agreement is a key milestone for Saab to successfully emerge from its reorganization process.
