Fiat Grande Punto set for India launch on June 17, 2009

Fiat India Automobiles Limited has announced that it is set to launch both the petrol and diesel versions of the Grande Punto, a mid-size hatchback, on June 17, 2009 in New Delhi. Based on its C-segment model Linea’s platform, Grande Punto will be available in both petrol and diesel versions. Though no official intimation has been provided by the company, it is expected that the Fiat Grande Punto will be launched in three variants - Active, Dynamic, and Emotion.

Toyota 2.0 L diesel-powered Corolla Altis to hit India by 2010-11

Toyota Motor Thailand Company Limited, which first introduced the latest generation of the Corolla Altis in Thailand in January last year and received strong response with aggregate sales of 37,000 units (as of April 30, 2009), has now launched the new Corolla Altis 2.0L powered by a 2,000cc Dual VVT-i which comes with exciting performance, as well as full comfort and convenience equipment list matching those offered in luxury cars. Sources have also revealed that Toyota’s Indian arm-Toyota Kirloskar Motors-is also planning to roll out the same car in the country.

GM China reaffirms its growth plans, not affected by bankruptcy in the US

Even as its parent company files for bankruptcy, GM China reaffirmed its commitment to its aggressive growth strategy. With the in-court process announced by GM today focusing on the company’s U.S. operations, GM China does not expect any impact locally. All businesses in China, including its eight joint ventures, will continue to function as normal.

GM plans a small car in the US to use idle UAW facility

General Motors Corporation has announced it plans to build a future small car in the United States thereby utilizing its idled UAW-GM facility. This vehicle adds to GM's growing portfolio of U.S.-built, highly fuel efficient cars including the Chevrolet Cruze and Volt.
"Small cars represent one of the fastest growing segments in both the U.S. and around the world," said Fritz Henderson, General Motors President and CEO. "We believe this car will be a winner with our current and future customers in the U.S."

Skoda Auto India reshuffles its top management

Effective June 1st, 2009, Karsten Bogun, managing director,commercial affairs retires from Skoda Auto India after a distinguished tenure in India. He will take up new responsibilities as CFO (Chief Financial Officer) of the VW Braunschweig plant in Germany.
Bogun joined Skoda Auto India in December 2006 and played a vital role in the company’s financial sphere.

Tata Motors eyeing the global defence market for Land Rover

According to reports in the media, Tata Motors, which had taken over marquee UK automobile brands, Jaguar and Land Rover, earlier this year, is exploring the possibility to sell the aforesaid vehicles for the defence market worldwide, which includes countries like India, China, Russia, and certain Scandinavian countries. With nearly 60 years' experience, Land Rover provides armed forces around the globe with light 4x4 vehicles designed to meet a wide range of defence and peacekeeping roles. The standard defence vehicle line-up within Land Rover's range is based on the Defender heavy-duty 4x4 platform. In addition the company manufactures Freelander 2, Discovery 3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport.

Refurbished Toyota Camry Hybrid to drive into India by 2010


According to reports flashing in the international media circles, Toyota Motor Corporation has recently unveiled the facelifted version of its Camry Hybrid in Thailand, which would be hitting the country’s showrooms shortly.
