Test Drive : Mercedes S500 - S is for Style and Substance

Most driving impressions are just that – a driving impression of the car with the emphasis being on how the car feels according to the driver. Sometimes though, along comes a car that if treated the same way it would be ignoring the true virtues of the car. I'm talking luxury and super-luxury cars which are usually purchased for several reasons, other than the pure thrill of driving. One reason could be to make a statement. Another could be that one wants to pamper one's self, as one has done enough, worked hard in life, to warrant such pampering. So a Maruti product is infra dig. A Chevrolet just does not cut it. Honda? Been there, done that. In short, when luxury – the best in terms of luxury – is what one is after the Germans, especially Mercedes, are past masters at it. Very few cars can approach the levels of the Stuttgart company's S Class, especially when it's the S500 that was recently launched in India, the day before the Auto Expo started in January. One just don't do a plain driving impression – one has to experience the whole car.

Test Drive : Hyundai's new all-rounder diesel i20

We have talked about the Hyundai i20 before. We know that Hyundai has been in India for just 10 years (though it feels much longer) and that there is a Hyundai car for every one. We know that from one car initially the company makes 33 variants of passenger cars across different segments.

Test Drive : Skoda's new Laura

Remember your school days and those dreaded snap tests - 10 quick questions - to gauge how much attention you were paying in class? Those who answered ten out of ten correctly became the teacher’s pet while those who failed to get at least seven correct would be admonished, even punished and reported.

Test Drive : Fiat Grande Punto - A Showstopper

Three years ago, Tata Motors joined hands with Fiat India in what was seen as a move akin to offering the seemingly-drowning Italian firm a straw to clutch and save itself. The deal in a nutshell was that in exchange for access to Fiat technology and the Ranjangaon manufacturing facilities, Fiat India would have access to the Tata Motors service marketing and servicing network. Which meant that both Tata and Fiat passenger cars would be sold jointly from each other’s showrooms as is the case today.
While Tata Motors launched its new Fiat engined Indica Vista not so recently, Fiat India was seen to be soldiering on with an ageing range. Not any more though, because with the launch of the Linea first and now the Grande Punto, though ideally it should have been the other way round as the Grande Punto was born first, Fiat India is fighting back.

By Invitation : Driving the Tata Nano was splendid by Shrawan Raja

What would it be like to drive the world's cheapest car? Would it give me a real high or would it feel slow and unstable like the world’s cheapest hard disk? Would it feel flimsy and uncomfortable like a cheap Chinese mobile phone my friend brought last week? Hoping to be disappointed, I fixed an appointment with a Tata dealership in my city in Chennai to assess the world’s cheapest car. The turn of events proved quite the opposite. Come, let’s explore this little wonder.
I strolled towards the grey Nano parked at a distance in the shade of a tree, it began getting bigger. Get this - the Nano isn't a ‘small car' the way we all conceive it. Fine, it is shorter than the Maruti800 but due to its height and large glass area, it looks much bigger and well-built. From certain angles you could even call it the mini- Indica. Tata’s smallest creation is sure to attract eyeballs as we later found out during our drive.

Honda Jazz Test Drive : Jazzing it up in Goa

Anamit Sen didn’t find wine, dodol and sausages in Goa but did do a first impression drive of the Honda Jazz....

Way back in 2001, Honda launched the first generation Jazz in Japan. From that beginning, the Jazz and the Fit as it is known in some markets has been sold in over 130 countries all over the world. That number did not include India till today as Honda has just launched the car in India. While the first generation model clocked up cumulative sales of more than 2 million, what Indian customers will soon get to park in their garages and drive is the new second-generation car. Wheels Unplugged was offered the chance of a preview drive and jumped at it especially as it was on the up-and-down, sometimes sweeping, NH17 in Goa.
